Harmony Rennie, a 7th grader at Union County Middle School and the Union County system spelling bee champion for 2007, was a spelling finalist, finishing number seven, at the District 2 GAE Spelling Bee Competition on February 24 at the Mabrey Middle School in Marietta, Georgia.

Harmony completed eleven spelling rounds

before missing one letter in the word "eligible," which she spelled "eligable." Twenty school system spelling winners from nine North Georgia counties competed at the meet to represent District 2 at the State Spelling Bee on March 23, 2007, at Georgia State University in Atlanta. The winner at the State Spelling Bee will go on to complete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee inWashington, D.C. on May 27-June 1, 2007.

According to Linda Cattanach, coordinator for the Union County Schools System Spelling Bee, "Harmony was a terrific representative of the Union County School system! She maintained her poise and exhibited her keen knowledge of the English language throughout the competition. Mrs. Gail Hendrix, the Media Center Specialist from Cobb County, who served as the Pronouncer for the event, told me she and the judges were particularly impressed by Harmony's presence and how she made eye contact with the Pronouncer when she was at the microphone." Mrs. Cattanach continued, "The judges were pleased Harmony, since she is in the seventh grade, has another year of competition."
