Lions attend semi-annual Lighthouse meeting

The following Union County Lions attended the recent semi-annual Georgia Lions Lighthouse meeting in Macon, Georgia: Arthur and Betty Gurr; Gene and Louise Little. Attending as many committee meetings as possible, which by the way, started at 10:00 a.m. that Saturday and ended at 5:00 p.m. with barely an hour break at noon for lunch these four Lions were indeed busy.

Some of the committee meetings attended were the Sight, Hearing, Children's Eye Care, Vision Screening Training, White Cane, Fund Raiser/Public Support and Public Relations, T.M.D.C. At the Sunday Board meeting, a rare treat was to hear first hand from a gentleman who had received eye surgery through the Lighthouse at no cost.

This being a 'state wide' meeting of the Lions Clubs from each of the six Lion districts in Georgia, the crowd was large and the fellowship great with everyone sharing their ideas and club successes.

As a note of interest, Union County Lions turned in the following to the Lighthouse: 311 pairs of used eye glasses, 30 pairs of lenses, 15 eye glass frames without glasses, 3 used hearing aids, and 6 discarded cell phones. A huge thanks to you, the public, for your part in this as you used our Lion collection boxes at Ingles, Mountain Eye Care, Blairsville Optical and of course, you may leave any of the above items at Cochran's Funeral Home or Mountain View Funeral Home.

If you have or know of someone who resides in Blairsville or Union County that is in need of eye glasses, eye surgery, or hearing aids and has no means of paying for such, please contact one of the following for an application: your eye doctor, your hearing specialist, DFACS, or Lion Les Myers at 706-745-3957. Lions Motto: We Serve.
