Adopt-A-Campground Looking to try something new this year? Consider volunteering for your local Chattahoochee National Forest! The Brasstown and Toccoa Ranger Districts are seeking people interested in helping others and the environment. Here are two ways you can help. First, the Brasstown and Toccoa Ranger Districts will be starting an "Adopt-a-Campground" program this year. If you have a favorite recreation area on the Chattahoochee National Forest, consider being a sponsor for that area in helping to keep it in pristine condition. This is a great project for individuals and groups. There is no minimum commitment to "Adopt-a-Campground." Volunteers are expected to have fun and commit to keeping their area clean by visiting as often as possible. Second, the Brasstown Bald Visitor Information Center is in need of friendly faces to help disseminate information to the public about the history of Brasstown Bald and the local area. Have an interesting story to tell about the area? Here is your opportunity to share it with the world. Training and uniforms will be provided. Transportation from Blairsville can also be arranged. There is no minimum time requirement to volunteer, but at least one day per week is preferred. Volunteers will be asked to assist Forest Service staff in the Visitor Information Center and to perform light maintenance. This should be an exciting year at Brasstown Bald and we hope you will consider joining us! For more information about either of these opportunities, please contact Alison Koopman in the Brasstown Ranger District Office at 706-745-6928, extension 118 or write akoopman@fs.fed.us, or visit www.fs.fed.us/conf/. |
