Donna Howell guest of Lions

Union County Lions Club was pleased to have as their guest speaker at a recent meeting, Ms. Donna Howell, Executive Director of Mountain Regional Library System. This system covers Towns, Union and Fannin counties.

Ms. Howell gave an excellent update on the most recent equipment available for the visually and hearing impaired that may be used at the library or checked out for use at home.

Much of this equipment is handheld for convenience and even a device to hold books that might be too heavy for someone with impaired hands. There are lightweight books as well as books with large print. There are also books available on cassette tapes. Someone has donated non-prescription reading glasses for anyone in need for as long as they last.

Most recently a JAWS software has been made available for those with computers, to download, whereby, what is on the screen, will be read for those with visual impairment. Also available are some newspapers. You will have to call you library to find what is available.

For more information visit www.mountainregionallibrary. org or call 706-379-3732 in Young Harris; Blairsville, 706-745-7491; Blue Ridge, 706-632-5263.

Thank you, Ms. Howell, for an excellent presentation. Lions motto: we serve.
