United Community Bank supports kids through 4-H Livestock Project February, 16, 2007 - 4-H Club students from Union County have built an outstanding record over the past several years, with some students advancing all the way to national competition. United Community Bank wants to help students currently involved in the 4-H Livestock Program have that same opportunity to excel. Recently, Jimmy Nichols of United's Blairsville office presented a check to Mickey Cummings, County Extension Coordinator. The money will be used for the purchase of a steer for the Steer Sale that will be held in Perry, GA on February 19. Eight students are currently raising 11 animals that they will take to the show. There the competition will be stiff, since about 700 students from across Georgia will take part in the show. The show is the end result of months of work, starting last May when the students obtained their animals. From May until February, the 4-H kids must show responsibility and endurance, feeding the animals twice a day, keeping meticulous records, and preparing themselves and the animals for the show. One of the most important things the students learn is how to win- or lose- with grace and dignity. |
