UCB Mentors Aid Primary School Students

Studies have shown that when an adult shows interest in a child's education, that student will do better in school, whether the adult is a parent or a mentor. Five employees from United Community Bank in Blairsville have been proving these studies to be true.

Once a week, Sharon Arnold, Mary Brackett, Anna Gladdin, Helen Teboe and Teresa Dorton of the bank each meet with a different child for approximately an hour to help with school work, play games or just talk.

"I look forward to Thursdays when I meet with 'my' child," said Sharon Arnold, Marketing Assistant at United. "I can tell they are happy to see me and I believe that I make a difference."

United also recently purchased new games, puzzles, markers and construction paper for use in the Union County Mentoring Program. More volunteers are needed, so anyone interested in serving as a Mentor should call Jerry Bavero at Union County Primary School.
