Mary and Bob Cox in Folk School concert

Mary and Bob Cox will be featured in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 23 at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown. The public is welcome to enjoy a public exhibition of Folk School student crafts from 6:40 - 7 p.m in the Keith House Community Room, where the concert will be held.

Mary Cox is a third generation Floridian who received her first banjo when she was twelve. Her grandfather was a professional banjo player and his father was an old time fiddler. She grew up in Palm Bay, Florida, playing and singing with her brother and in local bands. Mary is best known for her old time banjo playing featured on her four CDs. She has won contests in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Alabama, playing banjo, mountain dulcimer, and old time string band music. .

Mary performs in concert with her guitarist husband, Bob Cox. Clawhammer banjo, mountain dulcimer, and old time guitar are featured in their performances as well as stories of Florida and the Deep South, old time music history, background on their instruments, and the traditional and not so traditional tunes they play.

Upcoming Folk School concert performers include The Bashful Mountain Broadcasters (March 2) and Celtic music by Barney?s Goat (March 16). The Folk School concert schedule is available on the world wide web at http://www.folkschool.org.
