Crisis Pregnancy Center opens new site, gets donation

Chris Scoggins, receiving the initial 90 percent of a grant for $33,000, for a mobile ultrasound machine project from the Georgia Baptist Health Care Ministry Foundation. Presenting the Grant is Frank Cox-Chairman of the Board of the Georgia Baptist Convention, at the Georgia Baptist Missions and Ministry office in Duluth Georgia on February 8.
The Appalachian Area Crisis Pregnancy Center (AACPC) has expanded its network of sites at which it offers free ultrasound scans, through its Ultrasound Outreach Program.

The newest site is Andrews, North Carolina.

And thanks to a $33,000 gift from the Georgia Baptist Health Care Ministry Foundation, AACPC will be acquiring the latest model machine for its 13 sites.

"It was through the miracle and providences of God that the ministry recently received the bulk of the funding needed to purchase the newest model for "mobile" ultrasound technology," said Chris Scoggins, AACPC Executive Director. "The ministry currently takes a similar but older model mobile machine to crisis pregnancy centers throughout north Georgia as far south as Jefferson, as far west as Summerville and east to Toccoa.

"Having been given the green light to begin scans at the newest center in Andrews, North Carolina that makes a total of 13 Crisis Pregnancy Centers for whom the ministry offers free ultrasound scans," he said.

According to Scoggins, over 98% of the mothers who see "this wonderful view to the womb" chose either to adopt or keep the child.

"These pictures help to decisively dispel the myth that pre-born children lack true "humanity" or "personhood," he said. "These type scans communicate to a mother the reality of the precious sanctity of the life developing in her womb, helping her to make a truly informed decision about whether to abort, adopt or try and raise her child."

In addition to the Ultrasound Outreach program, the Appalachian Area Crisis Pregnancy Center(s) Inc., operates three separate crisis pregnancy centers including, The Woman's Enrichment Center of Blairsville, The Woman's Enrichment Center of Dalton and as of Feb. 2, The Woman's Enrichment Center of Andrews, NC.

These Centers offer volunteer client advocates, classes including: certified child birth, parenting, art and sewing, budgeting and finance, cooking and many other helpful courses of instruction. Each center also offers baby clothes, food and formula, diapers, baby furniture, post abortion support, diaper bags and a host of other items and referrals helpful to parents of newborns.

The ministry also sponsors abstinence based character education programs in many area schools.

Scoggins said this newest genre of this mobile ultrasound technology was just placed on the market at the end of 2006. Because of the ministries goals, this machine was offered to the ministry far below the companies cost at only $33,000.

He said the initial 90 percent of the funding was provided, he anticipates "the gracious help of other friends of the ministry to supply the $1,240.00 still needed for this machine."

"We are trusting the Lord to move upon the hearts of a few more 'friends of life', to make this newest machine possible," said Scoggins.

The ministry is a "volunteer fueled organization" with over 124 volunteers making all these services possible."
