Road to Recovery

Are you a cancer patient? Do you need a ride to and from your treatment sessions? A lack of transportation should not be the reason why cancer patients do not receive the life-saving cancer treatment they need. The American Cancer Society offers their Road to Recovery program to help transport cancer patients to and from their treatment. The Society has a tollfree number that you may call, and an operator will put you in touch with local volunteers that give cancer patients without personal transportation rides to and from their cancer treatment sessions. Bereavement Support Group

Welcome to a community bereavement support group. A place to share your thoughts and feelings and grow together with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

GWRRA meets

Chapter J of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) meets the third Saturday of each month at Daniel's Steak House in Hiawassee. Lunch is at 11 a.m. and the meeting is at noon.

We encourage current members of the GWRRA and anyone interested in becoming a member to join us. Guests are always welcome, and we look forward to seeing participants from other chapters. There are great rides coming up and we hope many of you will join us.

AARP fights Identity Theft

The local chapter of AARP will have petitions available at the next meeting on February 8th to present to the Legislature during an upcoming visit. A local instance of identity theft has just been brought to our attention and we are going to fight for the bill that will lock access to personal credit information and financial records.

Please join us for the February meeting on the 8th at 2 p.m. at the Senior Center (next to the Courthouse). Get involved with this local chapter to help us make a difference. Everyone is welcome.

Model railroaders meeting

All model railroaders are invited to our next meeting to be held on Monday February 5.2007. It will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 823 Forge Mill Road at Highway 515,Morganton, Ga. Friends of NRA to hold dinner, auction

Psssttt! Let me let you in on a little secret I just heard. Mum's the word - right?

A little birdie told me Union General Hospital Auxiliary has something planned for a month from tomorrow. That's right "something" has been planned for Thursday, March 8, 2007.

Hey! - you didn't hear it from me, but if I were you I would go ahead and put a big red circle around that date on my calendar right now because you and I both know if it's something the Auxiliary is doing it's gonna be good. Plus I would closely watch all the next issues of Union Sentinel to learn more.

BTW, Mum's NOT the word, go ahead and tell everyone you know.
