North Georgia Rapids "Snowed-In"

The North Georgia Rapids Swim Team, sponsored by the Blue Ridge Mountain Fitness Club in Blairsville, recently sent two of its younger, premier swimmers to the "Snowed-In- Vitational" Swim Meet held in Clarkesville, Georgia.

Anna Knight and Courtney Marshall, both age ten, had an excellent day. Anna had personal best times in both the 50 yd. breaststroke and freestyle, earning a second and third. Anna also won a first in the 50 yd. butterfly and a second in the 100 yd. backstroke.

Courtney competed in five events, setting personal best times in all of her races. Courtney received two second place finishes in the 50 yd butterfly and freestyle. She also won two first place ribbons in the 200 yd. freestyle and 100 yd. backstroke, barely missing her first state qualifying time (by less than a second) in the backstroke event. Courtney finished the morning with a sixth place finish in the 50 yd. breaststroke.

The Winter swim season competition will end in April with the Summer season beginning in mid-June. Now would be a great time to get started in a competitive swimming program. The team has swimmers from age 6 to 16 with a wide range of experience. We practice year round, three days a week. This sport is an excellent way to stay in shape and it helps conditioning for other athletic sports, which many of our swimmers also participate in.

If you would like more information about the program, contact Barry Gay (706)835- 1662.
