The Lady Panthers evened the score with Banks County Friday, defeating the Lady Leopards team that edged them in the first subregion game of the season.

"We played really well up here and lost it in the fourth quarter," Head Coach Mike West said. "Down there we were down at halftime and their best player came out and scored 10 straight points in the third quarter and we were down by 12."

The coach made defensive adjustments, shifting Kayla Gowder to guarding her. Gowder shut her down the remainder of the game, not allowing her another point.

The Lady Panthers were then able to take the lead, but Banks managed to cut the advantage to a single point before Sarah Fulghum snagged an offensive rebound and made the putback. Union stretched out the lead once again before giving up an uncontested trey that left them with a four point win.

Union won the rebounding battle 27-23 and had 7 fewer turnovers than their opponent. Although Union only shot 27 percent from the field, the team went 23-25 from the foul line, an impressive 92 percent shooting.

The Lady Panthers had four players in double figures, as Candace Williams led in scoring with 16 points. Lauren Dyer added 15, Kayla Gowder had 12, and Sarah Fulghum scored 10.

Union 38 - Fannin 53

The Lady Panthers got off to a good start in their rematch against the Lady Rebels, keeping the game tight in the first quarter as Lauren Dyer traded baskets with the Lady Rebels No. 35. Fannin began to pull away, taking an 11-6 lead, but Union evened the score.

Fannin pulled back ahead by a point, 14-13 by the end of the first quarter, but a Kayla Gowder three-point-play gave the Lady Panthers a 16-14 lead to begin the second period.

Union held the lead again 18-16, but the Lady Rebels executed a 12-2 run that put them ahead 28-20 going into halftime.

In the third period the Lady Rebels increased the lead to a dozen points at 37-25, but a Lauren Dyer trey and Kaley Sullivan basket brought the lead back to seven points.

Dyer hit another three, and suddenly the Lady Panthers were only facing a five point deficit. However, this turned out to be as close as they would come, as the Lady Rebels finished the game with a 14-4 run.

Lauren Dyer had 13 points, 9 of which came on a trio of three-pointers. Kayla Gowder added 13 of her own, and Kaley Sullivan scored 5.
