Lions Ted and Maureen (better known as Moe) of Union County Lions Club had the honor of representing this local Lions Club at the Lions International Convention in Boston, Mass., this past summer of 2006.
Why so late in recapping their firsttime experience at an annual Lions Convention? The answer to that question is that unlike so many others in this area, Lions Ted and Moe spend their summers in the North and their winters here in Union/Towns counties area.
What with prior program commitments and their not returning to this area until the Fall, it is only recently that they gave their report of the Convention to the Union County Lions Club.
So what was it like to attend the annual Lions International Convention? "Exciting and fabulous" were the words they used to describe their experience as they met and made new friends as well as joining Lions from all over the state of Georgia.
Lions Ted and Moe told of many interesting events, however, the Lions International Parade through the streets of Boston, of which they were participants, impressed them the most with the 13,000-plus Lions attending worldwide! The colorful native dress of the many foreign countries was beautiful to behold.
Also of special interest was that the NEEDS Organization was given special recognition at this convention as it was given "seed money" by Lions International to organize back in 1976. Lions Ted and Moe have volunteered many hours to this organization for several years to "socialize" puppies, who later become guide dogs.
A note of interest is that this Lions International Convention was originially scheduled for New Orleans, however, "Katrina" altered those plans.
Thank you Lions Ted and Moe for sharing this exciting experience with your home club, Union County Lions Club. Lions motto: We Serve.
