JV Boys rout Tallulah Falls
By JARED PUTNAM

Colwell gets off the shot over the leaping defender.
The JV Panthers pulled out a convincing win over Tallulah Falls Saturday, defeating the Indians 65-30.

"Offensively we shot the ball pretty well," Coach Carson Turlington said. "65 points is a lot for a JV team."

The Panthers took their opponent out of the game early, pulling away to a 31-14 lead by the half. Union posted it's biggest point totals in the second and third quarters, with 19 points and 20 points respectively.

Josh Walker led the team with 14 points while Clay McConnell and Kolt Owenby each had 11, and Brad Beise chipped in 8. Every player in the game scored for Union county.

"Since the loss to Fannin the boys are playing much better," Coach Turlington said. "We look forward to playing them again."

The Panthers freshmen team also saw action this week, defeating Fannin County's freshmen 32-30 in a very tight contest. Union led 18-12 at the half, and 28-23 at the end of the third quarter, but the Rebels rallied in the fourth quarter.

"They actually had the lead with about 50 seconds left," Coach Turlington said, "but we got the steal and got the score."

Both teams shot 48 percent for the game, as Union County was led by Brady McCarter with 11 points followed by Kolt Owenby with 9.

"This is a good group of ninth graders and I hope they stay with it," Coach Turlington said.
