RAINER’S RAMBLINGS
Watching others
By RAINER ARNOLD

Last week I went to Florida with my wife for Christmas with her folks. Well, I like to watch how people drive and what they drive. And I saw the many different ways people drive. Two handed, one handed, relaxed, tense and the list goes on.

I also noticed that too many people were driving and talking on their cell phones. They were holding it in one hand and even smoking. I really could not see which hand, if any was on the steering wheel.

But I did see a lot of cars pass me when I was driving. And, I have to admit I may not have been doing the speed limit. Old cars, new cars and vans, they all passed me. Sometimes I wanted to get a glimpse at the driver, but they shot by me so fast I could not tell if it was a male or female driver. I even say one guy pass me and I thought there was no one driving. The back of the seat was so far back that it looked like the driver was almost laying down. I wondered how he could see.

I also saw a bunch of cars with tinted windows so dark you could not see anyone inside. Once, in South Georgia I saw a cops stop a car. I think it may have been for a window tinting violation. I wonder how those people see out when I can’t even see in. It has got to be a weird feeling.

Then once in Florida I saw a lot of older people driving. I mean old and slow. With the speed limit at 55 they are doing half of that. IN town they drive slow as well. But one thing is certain. These older people are not on their cell phones being distracted. They may drive slow, but they are getting where they want to go. As a matter of fact my mother in law did not have a cell phone until we got her one for Christmas.

Anyway, now it is the NEW YEAR. And, I hope everyone out there had a very nice Christmas and Happy New Year’s Eve.

And finally I want to wish everyone out the a Happy 2007 that is filled with health, prosperity and friendships.
