Vernon Hugh Lance

Mr. Vernon Hugh (Better known as Hugo) Lance, 85, of Loving Rd., Morganton, Ga., died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.

Mr. Lance was born July 7, 1921 in Union County, Ga., the son of the late Thomas M. Lance and the late Mary Louise Byers Lance. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp of WWII. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, June Eileen Lance who also passed away this year; and by a sister, Mae Lance Martin. Mr. Lance was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Lance are son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Judy Lance of Morganton; sisters, Opal Lance Anderson Poteet of Marietta, Maude DeWeese of Mineral Bluff, Ga.; brother-in-law, J.O. Martin of Conyers; six grandchildren, Kyle Thomas Lance, Sherry Sosebee, Jeffery Holden, Lisa Nicholson, Matthew and Adam Dockery;

many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held

Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006 at 2 p.m. from

the funeral home chapel with the Rev.

Hubert Legg officiating. Pallbearers were

John Little, Grady B. Williams, Johnny

Glore, Alton Garrett, Lewis DeWeese,

Ronnie DeWeese and Steven Carnes. Interment

followed in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
