UCHS sophomore addresses Kiwanis Club

Emily Bell recently attended the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. After a rigorous selection process involving the teaching staff at Union County High School, Emily spent one week in the nation’s capitol learning how our government works. She participated in writing several amendments to a mock bill before congress, and then participated in caucuses and even a mock session of congress. The mock congress then discussed and voted on the bill and the amendments. This gave Emily a real feel for the operation of political parties and how the United States Congress operates.

After the sessions were over, Emily and her new friends from all over the United States

had the opportunity to visit many of the monuments and memorials to our nation’s past leaders including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

The Kiwanis Club of Blairsville is pleased to financially support the youth of our community in projects such as this, and is very proud of Emily and her accomplishments.

The Kiwanis Club of Blairsville is dedicated to serving and supporting young people in the immediate area around Blairsville through

numerous projects. The Kiwanis Club meets at the Cobbs Mill Restaurant in Blairsville at 12:00 noon on each Monday. Come join in the fun with us! For more information, contact President Buddy Moore at (706) 745-3839.
