Relay for Life 2007

The Union County volunteers have announced that the Relay For Life Team Captains Kickoff will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. on the North Georgia Technical College Blairsville Campus. Team recruiters will be contacting potential 2007 teams to get everyone registered as soon as possible. Teams may consist of at least 10 people representing local businesses, church groups, families, or civic organizations. “This will be a milestone year for our local community,” stated longtime Relay for Life volunteer Sue Upchurch. “Many of our former teams will be reuniting with a renewed enthusiasm for this battle against cancer. We are making progress in lessening the burden of cancer for many and there is hope for a cure as we see more and more patients surviving and living a better quality of life, “she added.

Just recently North Georgia Technical Colleger allowed our volunteers to host a special holiday reception for our area cancer survivors. It was held as part of the college’s Dec. 7 event. “Many of the survivors stopped by the special Relay For Life table and tree to receive a gift from our volunteers, “ stated Stacy Head, 2007 Survivor Coordinator for Union County’s Relay For Life. Mrs. Head added that the Relay For Life Survivors Dinner and Celebration will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. It will again be hosted by North Georgia Technical College Staff and Students from the Blairsville Campus.

“This will be a time for celebration and entertainment so that our cancer survivors will be revved up and ready for the 2007 Relay For Life,” she stated.

Everyone in Union County is asked to mark your calendars for the following dated; June 22 and June 23. The local Relay For Life 2007... “This will be a late starting time so that more survivors and team members will have time to arrive and register on the track this year,” stated RFLvolunteer Janet Hartman. The traditional survivor t-shirts will be given out beginning at 5 p.m. in the Hospitality tent located on the football field near the homestands.

The inspiring Candle Lighting Luminaria Ceremony will begin at 9:00 p.m. The Closing Ceremony will begin at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 23. In between there will be loads of entertainment on the stage area and around the track with the team campsites. There will be lots of food and great fellowship for all ages to enjoy. Bring the family and share the moments that make the Union County Relay For Life one of the best and biggest in the nation.
