Electrical Lineworker Apprentice Program North Georgia Technical College, Clarkesville Campus, will open its first Electrical Lineworker Apprentice Program beginning Spring Quarter 2007. The complete certificate program will be only eight weeks, and plans are to start a new program each quarter. Students will be covered under the HOPE Grant for eligible Georgia citizens. This new program will offer graduates above-average starting pay with highly respected companies, and interviews are guaranteed for posted job openings with several of the utilities, including Georgia Power. The program is being started at the request of utility companies across north Georgia. Many lineworkers are approaching retirement, and there is expected to be a significant shortage of qualified replacements within the next five years. North Georgia Technical College was approached to start a program because of its strategic location and the fact that it is a residential college. Students from anywhere (even outside of Georgia) may participate in the program and stay in the dormitories. A “Skills Field” is being constructed at North Georgia Tech as an outdoor lab for students to gain hands-on experience in climbing, pole setting, underground cable installation, equipment operation, safety, and much more. The class will be limited to 16 students each quarter. Anyone interested should apply online at www.northgatech.edu or call 706-754-7725 or 706- 754-7736 for more information. |
