Habitat for Humanity sponsors Alternative Gift Program

We all have favorite charities and although Habitat for Humanity may not be number one for you, we hope that we can be one of your top three or four favorites. Many contributors to Habitat for Humanity

make their contributions to the national headquarters in Augusta, GA and we are thankful for your efforts to help provide affordable housing for those in need.

Before moving up to the mountains and getting involved with the local Habitat affiliate, President Ralph Kwiatkowski, said that he had been a regular contributor at the national level. It was here that I realized that the national contributions went for national and international projects and that ALL AFFILIATE FUNDS NEEDED TO BE RAISED LOCALLY. If you happen to be a contributor at the national level, and you want your contributions to help our local efforts, please specify that your contribution should be forwarded to Towns/Union County, affiliate number 1964- 3496. If you choose, you can also mail your contributions directly to the local office. Since we tithe, the national office will receive 10% of your contribution for their programs.

The Towns/Union Counties Habitat for Humanity affiliate has an on-going Alternative Gift Program in “honor of” or “in memory of” someone you consider to be a special person in your life. According to Elizabeth Lashley, Board Member and long-time supporter of Habitat, “Everyone has a friend or special someone who is hard to buy for because they have everything. Making a tax deductible donation to Habitat in that person’s honor means that you don’t have to worry about color, size or style, and that you know the gift will be put to very good use instead of sitting on a shelf gathering dust,” she explained. “Besides,

a gift to Habitat is actually two gifts in one. It not only expresses your wishes to your honoree, but it also brings joy and hope to a family in need of decent, affordable shelter.” This is a year-round program, so you can give that someone special an alternative gift any time of the year.

“Donations to our affiliate have already helped provide adequate housing for six families in our community. Two hundred and fifty dollars goes a long way toward roofing a house, but enough ten dollar donations will also do the job, therefore no donation is to small. We expect to begin construction on another house in the spring, and donations in any amount will be very much appreciated.”

To make an alternative gift donation to Habitat for Humanity in the name of a family member, friend or coworker, mail your donation with the name and address of the person you would like to honor to: Towns/Union Counties Habitat for Humanity, P O Box 270, Young Harris, GA 30582. The local affiliate will send a beautiful card to the person you name, indicating that a contribution toward affordable housing was made in their honor.
