Local Dar Chapter announces essay contest winners The Old Unicoi Trail Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, NSDAR, has announced the chapter winners of the 2006-2007 American History Contest and the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest. There was very good response this year; 147 essays were received from the public, private, and home schools in Fannin, Union, and Towns Counties. The winners of the American History Essay Contest are: Fifth Grade: Megan Little, East Fannin Elementary School; Sixth Grade: Amy Elizabeth Brumley, Union County Middle School; Seventh Grade: Carly Murphy, Mountain Area Christian Academy; and Eighth Grade: Grace Elizabeth Patterson, Mountain Area Christian Academy. The winner of the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest is Laura Kelley, Mountain Area Christian Academy. These winners, with their parents and teachers, will be honored at the DAR?s School Awards Program in May, 2007. The winning essays are being forwarded to compete in the district level and then hopefully to the state and national levels. The Chapter would like to thank Sally Barker, Joyce Hooper, Riki Fiebel, Linda Powell, Jeannine Robertson and Beverly Shreeve for their participating as Judges for this year?s local contest. Shreeve, the local chairperson for the American History Essay contests is hopeful that next year’s contest will be equally successful and even more area students will participate. |
