A second half surge paid off for the Lady Panthers Friday, as they beat the Lady Bulldogs of Murphy 49-43 in Union County's first home game of the season.

"Our defense was good, our offense was not," said Coach West. "We didn't play team ball the second period, we played me ball."

In the second half the Lady Panthers opened with an 8-0 run, tying the game. They later took their first lead since the opening quarter on a layup by Candace Williams, pushing Union out in front 32-30.

"We made some adjustments at half-time

helped us a lot," said the coach. He added that another big factor was the difference in shooting percentage between the first and second half. The coach said that the Lady Panthers shot a mere 18 percent in the first half, but shot 52 percent in the second half once they began to pound the ball inside. Candace Williams led the team with 15 points and added 3 rebounds. Lauren Dyer added 12 points and 5 rebounds while Kayla Gowder totaled 10 pts, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Sarah Fulgham led the team with 4 steals.
