Eaton wins PSC election runoff
By JARED PUTNAM

Republican Chuck Eaton won his bid for Public Service Commission (Dictrict 3) Tuesday, defeating Incumbent Democrat David Burgess in the General Election Runoff to decide the final statewide race of 2006.

Tuesday's runoff turned out to be what was expected, a race determined by extremely low turnout around the state. Across Georgia, with just under 98 percent of precincts reporting, Eaton had tallied over 111,000 votes (52.47 percent) while Burgess had received over 101,000 (47.53 percent), a difference of just over 10,000 votes.

In Union County only 473 ballots were cast, a mere 3.86 percent of registered voters. Eaton received 298 votes (63 percent) while Burgess received 175 votes (37 percent).

Ultimately Eaton was able to reverse his fortunes from the General Election, a race which saw him trail Burgess, who received 48.8 percent of the vote at that time. Eaton received 46.3 percent, a difference of more than 50,000 votes.
