Busy Bee latest victim of break-in
By JARED PUTNAM

Busy Bee Printing became the latest victim in a string of break-ins that have targeted Blairsville businesses in recent weeks, as a perpetrator broke in and stole $100 in cash. The break-in occurred some time between closing Tuesday night, December 5, and 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 6.

Michael Baxter, Assistant Chief of the Blairsville Police Department, said that the recent string of break-ins includes The Blairsville Restaurant, Foodland, Butts Antiques, and now Busy Bee.

"I think they're related," said Baxter. "This has been a series in the last week and a half or so and we feel like they are all related." Baxter said that the Blairsville Police Department has increased its patrols in the wake of the robbery spree.

In the case of Busy Bee, it appears that the robber initially tried to enter through a back door, but was unsuccessful due to a deadbolt. This person took out a window pane but could not reach the lock. The perpetrator then went to another window in the back of the building and entered through it.

In regards to what local business owners can do to better protect themselves, Baxter said the most important thing is just covering the basics. "The main thing is to make sure all your doors are locked, and if you do have an alarm, use it," said Baxter.

He also encouraged the public to report anything unusual to the police department. "If anybody sees any suspicious activity or has any information on these break-ins please call us," said Baxter. "Don't hesitate. Any leads we can get are important right now. I can assure you that we will look into every tip that there is. We want to catch them just as badly as anyone. We're going to catch them, it's just a matter of time."
