Parade was 'fabulous'
By KATHLEEN MCKEVITT

Santa and Mrs. Claus made their annual appearance in Blairsville's Hometown Country Christmas parade.
A record 70 entries in the 2006 Blairsville Christmas parade and a stream of people lining sidewalks and streets to watch made this year's event "one of the best" according to spectators in front of United Community Bank.

Debbie Alexander, Cochairperson of the parade for the last 11 years, says, "I've been doing it so long now that when the time comes around each year, I just make a couple of phone calls to the people who know how to do it, and it all happens. This year was fabulous!" Co-chair is Renai Brock who is recently retired from the Chamber of Commerce.

The Christmas parade is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the new President, Cindy Williams, was on hand to pass out the nine winning trophies; there are three each in the categories of Business, Civic, and Church.

It took about an hour to move along the route through town starting and ending at the old Middle School ballground.
