Local churches partner with Habitat for Humanity Over half of the funding for Habitat this year came from local churches. They were a major factor in making the Habitat for Humanity Church Committee's "Apostle's Build" a success. Their contributions, both financial and supplying the needed volunteers, made the "Build' this year a tremendous success. Habitat for Humanity of Towns/Union Counties and the Nations' family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the following churches in our community: Coosa United Methodist, First United Methodist of Union County, First Baptist of Blairsville, Good Shepard Episcopal of Hayesville, McConnell Memorial Baptist, Mountain Presbyterian, Notla River Baptist Association, St. Clare's Episcopal, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and Sharp Memorial United Methodist. Additional contributors to the Apostle's Build were Grace Presbyterian, Hiawassee United Methodist, Old Union Baptist, Union Hill United Methodist, and the Knights of Columbus from St. Francis. A special gift and donation of time and talent was also received from the Thrivent Lutheran organization providing for and installing the insulation for the house. J.C.Berrong of McConnell Memorial in Hiawassee was the volunteer coordinator for the project and worked with the various churches in scheduling work days through out the summer. Habitat, and all of the volunteer workers, would also like to thank all of the people behind the scenes that provided lunches and refreshments during the build. A project of this magnitude is truly a community effort and Habitat salutes all of those who participated in any way. Plans to build a house for another needy family in our community next year have begun. Funding for that house is our next major hurdle. |
