      The Lady Panthers were not able to pull out a tight game against Towns County Saturday, as the Lady Indians used pressure and inside shooting to eke out a narrow 51-48 win.       The Panthers improved their record to 4-0 over the weekend, remaining unbeaten with wins over the Murphy Bulldogs and Towns County Indians. "We did not play well either game," said Head Coach Tim Hunter. "Fortunately in both games we played well enough to win.

Adams honored
      Panthers alumni Michael Adams, a senior guard at Piedmont College, was named to the All-Tournament Team of the 2006 Roger Taylor Invitational in Rocky Mount, NC. Adams had 10 points and 4 rebounds in the championship game as the Lions prevailed 78-57 over host NC Wesleyan.

      The Woody Gap Falcons and Lady Falcons basketball teams opened their season over the weekend, playing a pair of home games against non-varsity squads from Rabun County and Fannin County. The Lady Falcons were outscored 48-19 against the Lady Wildcats of Rabun County.

JV Panthers start strong

      Two overwhelming victories kicked off the 2006-2007 season for the junior varsity boys, a team that seems to have multiple scoring options on the floor at any given time. Union County opened the the Murphy Bulldogs before following that victory with a 67-31 torching of Towns County.

      The junior varsity Lady Panthers basketball team battled both opponents and inexperience over the weekend, falling to Murphy and Towns County. The Lady Panthers played the Lady Bulldogs tight through the first half, trailing 10-9 at the end of the second period.
