An oral presentation by Bob Grove of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol will take place at John C. Campbell Folk School on Monday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m., to be followed by a performance of Christmas music by the Brose family.
In period costume, Grove will present a dramatic reading of the classic tale, including character voices. "The story's message and language are so well written that it is understood and appreciated by both children and adults," Groves
stated. In the familiar story, miser Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future who, in the course of a night, convince him to abandon his "bah, humbug" ways. According to Grove, the
story conveys the personal meaning of Christmas, including the joy of family, memories of childhood, and the triumph of the human spirit.
Immediately following the reading, David, Kathleen and Austin Brose will perform
sacred and secular holiday classics. The audience will often be invited to sing along as the Brose family plays on a variety of instruments including banjo, guitar, mandolin and ukulele.
The reading and concert will be held in the Keith House
of John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown on Monday, December 4 at 7:00p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 837- 2775 or 1-800-FOLK-SCH.
