Sorghum Festival Golf Classic 2006

The 2006 winners.
Every year for the past fourteen years, the Union County Rotary Club has hosted a golf tournament in conjunction with the first weekend of the Sorghum Festival. This tournament is one of the club's fundraisers. Despite the date of this year's tournament, Friday the 13th, the fourteenth annual Sorghum Festival Golf Classic proved to be quite a success, with twenty-six teams and great weather.

After the putting contest and lunch, prepared by Rotary Club members, golfing got started at noon. For the next five and a half hours the 104 golfers each took their best shot on the eighteen holes at Butternut Creek Golf Course. When it was all said and done though, there could only be one winner.

Scott Carter, Danny Hemphill, Chris Robbins and Jason Busbee took home the trophy and prize for First Place (low gross). Team members Danny Hemphill and Chris Robbins also won prizes for the putting contest and the longest drive contest on hole 2, respectively. Three other teams were given plaques and prizes for First, Second & Third Place (low net). On holes number four, eight, and seventeen, golfers were given the chance to compete for a prize for getting the ball closest to the pin. The winners for that event were Jeremy McDonald, Rob Cochran and Cary Cox, respectively.

This year's tournament was a success not only because of the golfers that supported it, but also because of the many local businesses that helped.

The Union County Rotary Club would like to thank them; without help from the community the tournament would not have been possible.
