RAINER'S RAMBLINGS
Professionalism
By RAINER ARNOLD

In recent months the Union Sentinel has done, in my opinion, a good job. We report the news as it happens, we cover sports and the community. We have great color pictures on our front page as well as the other three section, including some superb sports pictures.

However, in order to improve as we go along, I felt that there was no better way than to join a professional organization. The organization I am speaking about is the Georgia Press Association. I used to be a member of the Georgia Press Association (GPA) when I was at another newspaper and always appreciated all that it did for me.

Aside from earning a number of awards for the paper, the Georgia Press Association also offer quality workshops for writing, layout, advertising and just about anything pertaining to the creating of a newspaper.

Now, after about one year as the Publisher, we have finally achieved the goal that Jared and I had, which was to become a member of the GPA.

We have just been voted in as a member of the GPA after completing a lengthy application for including some very nice letters of recommendation from old friends in the newspaper business who are well entrenched in the GPAand have always advised me of the value of this professional association.

Now that we are members of the GPA we will be able to enter our stories, pictures, ads, layout and other facets for awards. We will be able to take part in seminars and workshops as I used to in the past. This will make the Union Sentinel a better paper for our readers.

Membership will also give us the resources of the GPA in presenting stories to our readers as well as the latest legal information available. Also, there are many experienced professionals with the GPA that can be sought out for assistance with stories or their presentation.

So, I just wanted to let our readers know that the Union Sentinel is on the road to becoming a better newspaper and I hope to her from you as to how, in your opinion, we may do so. Thus, we can use the GPA in our effort to bring you the best news that we can in the best format possible.
