Election runoff will decide one last race

It appears as if Georgians will be asked to return to the polls one more time this year, to decide the race for Public Service Commission, District 3, between Democrat David Burgess and Republican Chuck Eaton. Neither candidate received a majority of the vote, which is required in Georgia in order to declare a winner. The runoff is scheduled for Tuesday, December 5 while advanced voting is scheduled to take place between Monday, November 27 and Friday, December 1.

In the General Election Burgess received 994,619 votes (48.8 percent) statewide while Eaton tallied 941,748 (46.3 percent). In Union County Burgess received 2,787 votes (42.94 percent) while Eaton received 3,414 (52.60 percent). Turnout will likely be the biggest factor in the race, as light turnouts were experienced across the state in the Primary Runoff earlier this year, including here in Union County where fewer than 950 voters (less than 8 percent of those registered) returned to vote.
