To the Editor:

It never ceases to amaze me that in every community there seem to be those persons who, are either sadly uninformed or seem to thrive on spreading rumors and damaging speculations about anything they come in contact with.

The Towns/ Union Humane Society, is one of those unfortunate recipients. I have recently been advised that a rumor has been circulating, indicating that the Society's animal shelter is being inefficiently and poorly run to the detriment of the animals. In addition, comments have been heard that the dogs and cats, under the shelter's care, are not being fed properly or cared for in a humane way. This is completely unfounded and without substance. Often when animals are brought to the shelter they are malnourished and in poor condition. They are cared for

with kindness and love. I have visited the shelter a number of times during the past few months and find it is very clean and animal friendly. I have observed several client/ management discussions regarding adoption, and could not be more impressed with the professional way these adoptions were handled.

Not only have I recently adopted a beautiful healthy cat from the shelter but have considered offering to serve as a volunteer and director of the society, if asked. In my opinion, those persons who have found it necessary to spread untruths about the society, its Manager and staff and the society in general should evaluate their own participation in making the Humane Society a positive asset to our communities and cease finding fault and belittling others who are trying to help.
