Dragons edge jv Panthers
By JARED PUTNAM

Quarterback Kolt Owenby runs around his block for the 2 point conversion.
The junior varsity Panthers battled the Pickens County Dragons last week, coming up just short as the Dragons prevailed 22-14.

This was the second meeting between the two teams, with Pickens winning both contests by the same score. But Coach C.T. Hussion said that this game was much different from the first matchup.

While the Panthers struggled to move the ball during the two teams first contest, the offense played well in the second outing.

"We had no answer [in the first game]," said the coach. "We played better this time."

Union led 6-0 at halftime after a Blake Gowder touchdown. The twopoint conversion failed.

"The coin toss was actually bigger than you think because we knew that we were going to lose a lot of our players [in the second half] because they're now logging time on varsity," said Coach Hussion. "It was really a pretty good game. Some of our youngest kids came in and we couldn't stop the bleeding." Said Coach Hussion, "If I had it my way, I'd play Pickens every time. That will prepare you for varsity."

The Dragons receiver barely holds on to the ball.
The coach said that the team plans a mixture of players this week so that they are never very strong or very weak through the whole game.
