Blacksmith Auction this weekend John C. Campbell Folk School will offer more than 100 handcrafted items for auction on Saturday, November 4, in a fundraiser benefiting the school. Area artists, instructors and students at the Folk School have donated the auction items. Marianne Hatchett, Business Manager, said, "We're grateful to the craftspeople and artists who have donated their talented work to ensure our programs continue to provide excellent creative learning opportunities." According to Hatchett, many forms of craft and art will be represented in the auction, including forged metal, basketry, jewelry, pottery, turned wood and fiber creations, among others. Jan Davidson, Director, stated, "For 20 years, the Blacksmith Auction has been a way for everyone to get together in support of a good cause, namely the Folk School's various class programs. People will enjoy our entertaining auctioneers Tim Ryan and Bob Grove, and, at the end of the day, they can go home with something made with a creative mind, warm heart, and skilled hands." A silent auction will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A preview of the live auction items also begins at 1:00 p.m. Emcee Jan Davidson will begin the live auction at 2:00 p.m. with auctioneers Tim Ryan and Bob Grove. Campbell Folk School offers over 830 classes each year in traditional and contemporary craft, art, music, dance, cooking, gardening, nature studies, photography and writing.
