Hometown Halloween In years past, hundreds of costumed children have come to the old courthouse square on Halloween night looking for the candy and treats that are a tradition of this fall holiday. Unfortunately, with only about a dozen businesses waiting to give out sweets, the children end up going to neighboring towns to fill up their bags, show off their costumes and spend time with their friends. This year a committee of people is determined to change all that and is in the process of planning a safe and fun "Hometown Halloween on the Square" from 6-8pm on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, for the whole community to enjoy. The initial plans for this old-fashioned event include a costume contest, activities, storytelling, games and crafts on the grounds of the old courthouse in the middle of town square. And since no Halloween would be complete without candy, the perimeter around the square has been divided into more than 60 spaces, (first come-first serve), for businesses, churches & civic organizations to set up their own table, hand out treats and be part of what everyone hopes to be an exciting annual event. Several businesses have already signed up to take part in the festivities: Appalachian Community Bank, Twice is Nice Consignment, Exit Realty, Preferred Lending, Waffle House, Oprandi & Associates, Papa's Pizza, Kim Bilbo, The Pampered Chef, Ltd, Jeanette's Flowers, North Georgia Beverage, Hole in the Wall Restaurant, Primerica, Prete's Pizza, Century 21 Scenic Realty, United Community Bank, Misty Mountain Inn, Early Bird Antiques, C. Gay McTyre Realty, Union County Chamber of Commerce, Nancy's Pizza & Subs, The Owl's Nest, Jesse West Realty, Seasons Bank, Union Realty, Foodland, Seasons Inn Motel With an event this size, we are also in need of volunteers to help set up, assist with the children's games/activities and of course, to clean up afterwards! If you are interested in reserving a space or are willing to volunteer, please contact one of the following: Chris or Colleen Urbaniuk at the Seasons Inn Motel: 706- 835-4236 or 706-745-1631 Caroline Glenn at Early Bird Antiques 706-835-2644. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to give the children of Union County a safe and fun place to spend Halloween! |
