Courthouse nearly complete The County Commission meeting held on October 19 contained the usual county business mixed in with a bit of news about the courthouse construction. The older portion of the courthouse, which is currently being renovated, should be finished and opened back up within 30 days or so, according to Commissioner Lamar Paris. Two proclamations were also made on Thursday night. These were that October is National Physical Therapy Month, with the goal of raising "awareness of the importance of preventative health" and "of more healthier and more active lifestyles." Also, November has been declared National Hospice Month in recognition of the country's 3300 hospices and the 950,000 Americans that receive care in them. The meeting also made public two agreements between Union County and North Georgia Consulting LLC. One was for $5000 dollars for upgrades to communications for the fire and police departments, while the other was for Juvenile Services for the handling of Juvenile Court. Also, discussed at the meeting were the details of the special meeting called on October 10 for the hearing involving a road contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation dealing with the re-surfacing of Voylestown Road, which is receiving a new gravel surface. |
