Lions observe Lions world service day

Union County Lions club had the privilege of working with Lion Stephanie Treadman of the White County Lions Club and Doctor Kay Royal of the Toccoa Lions Club to provide a special visual device for a Union County Middle School youth. The device is called 'Bioptic.'

How did all of this come about? Lion Stephanie has been working as a teacher of the visually impaired for a total of 35 years with nine of those years out of White County. In addition, she worked with the visually impaired in the schools of Towns and Union Counties as well as other counties. Knowing that Lions Clubs of the various counties assist with the visual needs of those in their respective counties, Lion Stephanie contacted the Union County Lions Club of the need of the Middle School youth and there in began the process.

Presented to the recent Union County Lions Club Board of Directors meeing, the need was approved for the unusual and expensive device, which by the way, attaches to the recipient's eye glasses.

Lion Stephanie was asked to come and speak at a regular Lions meeting for further information on her work with the visully impaired. This she did, and many questions followed her brief presentation. The answers were very enlightening.

How did Doctor Kay Royal of the Tocca Lions Club become involved? Lion Stephanie works with various venders and eye doctors for the many visual devices that those with impaired vision require. Dr. Kay Royal is the eye doctor that Lion Stephanie works with here in the North Georgia mountains for the very special 'Bioptic' device required in this paricular situation.

Lions working together to provide the visual need of one middle school student in Union County. Thank you Lion Stephanie Treadmen of White County Lions Club and Lion Dr. Kay Royal of the Toccoa Lions Club for making this October Lions Service month project possible for Union County Lions Club.
