Narcotics Anonymous

Road to Recovery

Are you a cancer patient? Do you need a ride to and from your treatment sessions? A lack of transportation should not be the reason why cancer patients do not receive the life-saving cancer treatment they need. The American Cancer Society offers their Road to Recovery program to help transport cancer patients to and from their treatment. The Society has a toll-free number that you may call, and an operator will put you in touch with local volunteers that give cancer patients without personal transportation rides to and from their cancer treatment sessions. Give them a call at 1-800- ACS-2345.

Bereavement Support Group

Welcome to a community bereavement support group. A place to share your thoughts and feelings and grow together with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

First Thursday of every month

Where: United Community Bank, Community Room, Blairsville, Georgia

When: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.,

Third Thursday of every month

Where: Bank of Blairsville, Community Room, Blairsville, Georgia

When: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The group is presented by Regency Hospice.

GWRRA meets

Chapter J of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) meets the third Saturday of each month at Daniel's Steak House in Hiawassee. Lunch is at 11 a.m. and the meeting is at noon.

We encourage current members of the GWRRA and anyone interested in becoming a member to join us. Guests are always welcome, and we look forward to seeing participants from other chapters. There are great rides coming up and we hope many of you will join us.

Meeting of professional business women meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at 8 a.m. at Cooks Restaurant in Blairsville. We are sharing leads, information and support of our businesses and our community.

Flea market for north Georgia SPCA

The North Georgia SPCA will be holding a flea market at Ingles Shopping Center in Blairsville on October 28. We need your donations of unwanted articles to make this a success. We offer PAL (prevent a litter) coupons to help people get their animals spayed and neutered and we help people get strays/pets adopted. We do not have a facility to house animals. Please call us to find out the different drop off centers for your donated items. Alzheimer's & Dementia Support Group

This Alzheimer's Support Group provides interaction, information and inspiration for family members and caregivers in a confidential and supportive environment. This support group is affiliated with the Alzheimer's Association. We meet the 2nd Thursday of each month, Oct. 12, at 7:00 p.m. at Oriska Loving Care Adult Day Care, 1200 McKim Dr. Blairsville. Man to Man Prostate Cancer Support Group

Prostate Cancer Support Group-3rd Monday of every month from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at The Cancer Treatment Center Auditorium, 750 Deep South Road, Blairsville.

Community Service Board Meeting

The Committees of the Georgia Mountains Community Service Board will hold their February Committee meetings Tuesday, October 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the Georgia Mountains Community Services Administrative Office at 4331 Thurmond Tanner Road, Flowery Branch, GA.

Democratic party meeting

The Union County Democratic Party will meet on Tuesday, October 17 from 6-8 p.m. at the Senior Center in Blairsville. Our focus will be the upcoming election and a highlight of the meeting will be a conference call with Mark Taylor. Please bring a covered dish to share. We will meet and eat! All are welcome. Right Wing Dinner

On Thursday, Oct 12, Rep. Charles Jenkins and his opponent Frank Wheeler, will be speaking and taking questions at the Right Wing Dinner, hosted by the Conservative Country Coalition. The event, which will be held at the Brackett Community Room, begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be obtained at the Blairsville Pack & Ship. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Please take part in this event and enjoy some hot wings, drinks, dessert and more, while hearing the two candidates for state representative of our district speak.

Beginning Guitar Lessons

Beginning guitar lessons will be offered through the Union County Recreation Department. Registration is being held now and forms are available at the Meeks Park office. Class will begin on Thursday November 2, 2006 at 7:00 pm and continue every Thursday at 7:00 pm for 6 weeks. The cost of each class is $10.00 or $60.00 for the whole session.
