NGTC instructor Renee Deibert recognized for excellence in teaching

Renee Deibert, an Instructor in Computer Information Systems (Internet Specialist - Web Site) at North Georgia Technical College's Blairsville Campus, will compete during the week of September 25 with other top instructors in the Technical College System of Georgia for the Rick Perkins Award.

Ms. Deibert will join her colleagues from throughout the state at a conference in Augusta. This forum provides an opportunity for outstanding technical college classroom instructors to be recognized for their dedication, hard work and excellence.

In addition, the Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education will be presented

to the Technical College "Ms. Deibert is one of the Instructor of the Year. Ms. Deibert is NGTC's 2006 nominee for this award. The winner will serve as an ambassador for technical education in Georgia, and will make many public appearances throughout the year.

Ms. Deibert, who resides in Blairsville with her son, Evans, holds a Masters of Education in Instructional Technology from Georgia College and State University. She has a B.A. in Sociology from Valdosta State University. She sings locally with the Smokie Mountain Melodies Chorus, a ladies barbershop singing organization and she is involved in numerous other community-based organizations.

"She exemplifies the essence of technical education, which is displayed in the enthusiasm and work ethics of her students," he said. "She also was instrumental in the development of DTAE's Web diploma and degree programs and she continues to remain abreast of business and industry needs in this arena."

Larry Culpepper, Operators Director of the Blairsville Campus, commented: "We are

delighted that Ms. Deibert is the Rick Perkins nominee. She is a top-notch instructor and means so much to the Blairsville Campus."

Ms. Deibert also serves as NGTC's web master and keeps the college's website fresh and appealing. In addition, she has involved her classes in developing several websites for community based organizations. Finally, she also has been responsible for putting together an innovative e-Recruiting program on the web for North Georgia Tech.

"Renee is everything you could ask for in an instructor," stated Dr. Ruth Nichols, NGTC President. "She involves her students and pushes them to excel. She is certainly deserving of the Rick Perkins Award because of her innovation and leadership in teaching and beyond. We wish her the best, and we're proud to say she is a member of our faculty."
