Reflections on Georgia Politics Seminar
Bill Shipp on Politics and the Media

Young Harris College and the Institute for Continuing Learning are proud to present a series of fascinating and provocative seminars entitled, "Reflections on Georgia Politics." The seminars, which are open to the community free of charge, provide participants with an inside look at Georgia's public servants over the past five decades.

Columnist Bill Shipp will be the featured speaker for the September 28 seminar, entitled "Politics and the Media." The seminar will begin at 3:15 p.m. in the Wilson Lecture Hall of the Goolsby Building at Young Harris College.

Shipp, a native of Marietta, Georgia, was managing editor of the Emory Wheel while attending Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and managing editor of

The Red and Black while a student at The University of Georgia, in Athens, Georgia.

Shipp spent nearly three decades on the staff of The Atlanta Journal and Constitution and was named "best serious columnist" by The Georgia Magazine Association. He was also the recipient of Georgia Magazine Association's "Best Column/Department" award in 1994. Shipp, who began his career at The Atlanta Journal and Constitution in 1956, covered the beginning of the manned space program, the civil rights struggle, and several national political campaigns. He also had assignments in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Central America. He also served as associate editor and city editor of the Atlanta newspaper. Shipp currently writes a biweekly

column carried in more than 60 papers. He is a regular panelist on "The Georgia Gang," a news and politics commentary show that airs Sundays on WWAGA-TV (Channel 5) and MediaOne. A contributing editor to Atlanta magazine, Shipp has also written a regular column on regional politics for AT&T's Interchange on-line service.
