Pianist Frederick Moyer to perform at Folk School
By KATHI OSBORNE

Pianist Frederick Moyer will perform in the first concert of Brasstown Concert Association's thirty-third season, Sunday, September 24, at 3:00pm, at John C. Campbell Folk School.
Classical pianist Frederick Moyer will perform Sunday, September 24, at 3:00pm in a concert presented by Brasstown Concert Association at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC.

David Cook, Vice President of Brasstown Concert Association, said of the performer, "Mr. Moyer is a favorite with our audiences because, in addition to being extremely talented, he's also very personable, offering insightful commentary from the stage. We're pleased to begin our thirtythird concert season with a performance by such a gifted artist."

M o y e r ' s program will include works by Mozart, Reger, Chopin, Schubert, and Liszt. Of his musical choices, the pianist said, "The first half is a tribute to Mozart and contains wonderfully charming pieces that are not often played. The Andante was one of the last pieces Mozart wrote and is a transcription of a work that he wrote for a friend who had created a little gadget called a 'mechanical organ.' The Reger Sonatina has sections that are clearly inspired by Mozart's Sonata in A Major. The Chopin is an amazing showpiece that Chopin wrote at age 17."

"The second half of the concert will contain two major works of the piano repertoire. The Wanderer Fantasy is especially note-worthy; really revolutionary for several reasons which I will explain at the concert. It had a big effect on music of the Romantic Era. It is also fiendishly difficult: Schubert could not even play it!," Moyer stated.

During his 25 years as a full-time concert pianist, Frederick Moyer has performed in 41 countries and in such notable venues as Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Sydney Opera House, Windsor Castle, Carnegie Recital Hall, and the Kennedy Center. He has appeared as piano soloist with multiple, world-renowned orchestras and has 21 recordings.

The concert will be held Sunday, September 24, at 3:00pm in the Keith House of John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown. No reservations are required, and seating is by general admission. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for children. Full-season and half-season tickets are also available. A reception to meet the artist will be held immediately after the concert, weather permitting. For more information call 828-3890033.

The concert is supported in part by RBC Centura and the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts.
