Shawn Chastain takes twice the money

(Blue Ridge, GA) September 8Shawn Chastain of Murphy, NC broke the win streak owned by his brother as he took the Super Late Model win at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, GA on Friday night. He also pocketed double the regular first place money as all positions in all classes where they were racing longer laps in their respective feature races for double the prize money.
Shawn's brother, Johnny, was stopped in his quest to continue the win streak when he and David Payne tangled in turn two. At the time they were all chasing Shane Tankersley who had led from lap 1 to lap 30 but had problems on lap-30 and ended his night. Finishing behind Chastain in second was Russell Thomas who had recently left a hospital bed to get back behind the wheel of his race car.
David Payne recovered from the accident with J. Chastain and took home third position over Bear Patterson in fourth, and George Mashburn in fifth. Rodney Weeks finished in the sixth spot, followed by David Gamble in seventh, Shane Tankersley in eighth, Johnny Chastain in ninth, and Chris Twiggs in tenth.
In Limited Late Model action Galen Robinson of Cleveland, GA took the checkered flag first. He was followed to the finish by Jamie Oliver in second, Danny Ledford in third, Devan Dilbeck in fourth and Jeff Jones in fifth. Sixth position fell to Tyke Prince, followed in seventh by Brian Jackson, in eighth by Todd Manners, in ninth by Dustin Stevens and in tenth by Ty McGee.
The Crate Motor Late Model class was won by Sam Parris of Epworth, GA followed by Bo Stanley Jr. in second, Jim Bob Davis in third, Larry Higgins in fourth, and Jason Deal in fifth. Greg Ledford finished in sixth, Randy Dillard took seventh, Phillip Deal in eighth, Jason Walston took ninth and tenth went to Tim Cochran.
Alan Ledford won the Modified Hobby class feature over Jim Twiggs in second, Byan Stillwell in third, Tom Wright in fourth, and John Walker in fifth. Travis Lawson won the sixth position over Joe Pickelsimer in seventh, Kenny Barrett took eighth, Michael Barnett won the ninth spot over Robert Blanchard in tenth. Justin Thomas of
Morganton, GA took another big win in the Economy Hobby class. Finishing second was Jimmy Fetterman over Junior Whitner in third, Jadrien Beavers in fourth, and Joe Gilly in fifth. Sixth went to Gooch Spriggs over Cody Richards in seventh.
Marty Clark added another win in the Mini Modified class this time over Jamie Oliver who finished second. Brian McDonald took third over Junior Dillinger in fourth.
Jamie Cross won again in the Stock Mini class. Second went to Shannon Jones over Herbert Chinn in third, Payton Shook in fourth and an unnamed driver in fifth. Shawn Robinson finished sixth in the feature event.
This week Sugar Creek Raceway will feature the WINGED OUTLAW SPRINT CARS as the American Sprint Car Thunder Tour comes to Blue Ridge. The gates will open at 5 p.m. with practice at 7 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m. For more information you may contact the track at (706) 632-9083.
