Community Council Campaign Vice Chairs named

Marty Godfrey, Michelle Rowe, Rusty Royston and Kurtis Underwood are serving as Union County Vice Chairmen of the $90,000 "Partners in Service" Campaign of the Community Council of the Georgia
Mountain Research and Education Center. The announcement was made by Andy Williams, Union County Chairman of the campaign. "I am pleased to have Marty, Michelle, Rusty and Kurtis serving leadership roles in the campaign. Their commitment to this community is well known. It is a pleasure to work with them. They are recruiting an outstanding group of civic leaders to work in the campaign," said Williams. The campaign in Union County will be conducted over a sevenweek period in September and October.
Godfrey is Executive Vice President of Appalachian Community Bank. A native of McCaysville, Georgia, Godfrey graduated from the University of Tennessee with majors in Business Administration and Accounting. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia Banking School. An entrepreneur, Godfrey enjoyed successful careers in both retail and manufacturing before entering the banking field in 1998. Godfrey is Chairman of the
Leadership Division of the Community Banks Association of Georgia and a Director of that organization. Active in civic affairs and causes, Godfrey is Chairman of the Membership Committee of the Union County Rotary Club.
Rowe works with her husband Steve in their accounting firm, W. Steven Rowe, CPAand with J.P. Gibson Construction. A native of Blairsville, she earned degrees from Young Harris College and the University of Georgia where she majored in Banking and Finance. Rowe served in banking locally and in the Atlanta area before beginning her family. She and Steve have two children, both of whom have participated in programs of the Education Committee of the Community Council. She served in the Council's 2005 campaign.
Royston is President and Senior Soil Scientist of Southern Geosystems Ltd, a professional technical land development services firm. He earned degrees from Young Harris College and the University of Georgia in Environmental Science. Royston received additional training through programs of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Southern Polytechnic State University. Very active in civic affairs, Royston is completing his third year as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce. A long time volunteer leader in the Boy Scouts of America, Royston serves as a member of the Council Executive Board of the Northeast Georgia Council. He
is a leadership trainer for both adult volunteers and youth participants.
Underwood is Vice President-Manager of Mortgage Operations of United Community Mortgage Services. A native of Clyde, North Carolina, he is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a major in Accounting. A CPA, Underwood served a bank in North Carolina for nine years before joining United Community Banks in December 2001. Very active at First Baptist Church, he is Chairman of the Board of Deacons, serves as a Sunday School teacher and sings in the choir. Underwood also sings with the "Promise Quartet", a southern gospel group.
