'Reflections on Georgia Politics' seminar at Young Harris College continues

Young Harris College and the Institute for Continuing Learning are proud to continue their series of fascinating and provocative seminars entitled, "Reflections on Georgia Politics." The seminars, which are open to the community free of charge, provide participants with an inside look at Georgia's public servants over the past five decades.

Noted political historian and campaign consultant Bob Short will moderate a discussion on "Religion and Politics" on Thursday, September 14, beginning at 3:15 PM in the Goolsby Building's Wilson Lecture Hall on the campus of the College. Joining Bob will be

Rev. Fred Craddock, minister emeritus of Cherry Log Christian Church in Cherry Log, Georgia. Rev. Craddock, reported in Newsweek magazine as one of America's top preachers, works with The Craddock Center, a non-profit organization, offering programs which meet physical health, social and cultural needs of communities in Southern Appalachia. A prolific writer, Dr. Craddock has authored The Pre-Existence of Christ, As One Without Authority, Overhearing the Gospel, and The Gospels. In addition, he is a sought after lecturer, having addressed audiences at Yale University, the Claremont

School of Theology, the Southeastern Baptist Seminary, and Vanderbilt University among others.

On the panel with Rev. Craddock and Bob Short will be Rev. Charles Gillespie, Pastor of Providence United Methodist Church in Blairsville.

Bob Short, the seminar's leader, is an alumnus of Young Harris College. He is a veteran public affairs and political consultant who has served as administrative aide to four Georgia governors and two U.S. Senators. He has also managed the campaigns of several public officials, including Jimmy Carter when he ran for Governor in 1966.

Upcoming programs in the series include "Politics and the Media" with former political editor of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Bill Shipp on September 28; former Congressman Ed Jenkins on October 5; former Governor Joe Frank Harris on November 2; and former Governor Roy Barnes on November 16. All programs are at 3:15 PM in the Wilson Lecture Hall of the Goolsby Center.
