Special Presentation:
Confederate 11th Georgia Cavalry

A special lecture by John Latty, author of a soon-to-be-published book on the Confederate 11th Georgia Cavalry, will be held on Sat., Sept. 16, 7 p.m., at the Old Courthouse in Blairsville.

Many men who served in the 11th were from Union County, including two of its commanding officers -Dr. Andrew Young and H.W. Barclay. The 11th Georgia Cavalry fought Sherman's "March across Georgia" in the vicinity of Atlanta and in northeast Georgia. Most of the 11th was captured at Savannah and Macon.

This free lecture is sponsored by the Union County Historical Society. All members, friends, and interested community members are invited to join us for this glimpse into the county's Confederate history.

For additional information, please contact the Historical Society at 706-745-5493 or history1@alltel.net or visit our website at www.unioncountyhistory.org.
