Al Garnto wins division
On Saturday,
September 2, 2006, Al Garnto, local artist and long distance runner, won first
place in his division and fourth overall at the Young Harris College
Invitational crosscountry meet. Al ran the 5K course in just over 20 minutes.
This was a multidivision cross country cross country meet with runners from all
over the North Georgia Mountains ranging from middle school thru college and
open class divisions. Al said, "As alumni I have played tennis here for many
years. With this new cross country course I will enjoy the campus on a whole new
level. Y.H.C. has done a great job with this new trail. I really enjoyed
competing here today. I would like to thank Young Harris College for putting on
this event. They did an awesome job."
Al has qualified the second year in a row to run with the Blue Ridge Relay
cross country team, Murphy's Law. Al and his team will be running Sept. 8 and 9
on the 208 mile course. Good luck to Al and Murphy's Law.
