Join the Hospice Auction Fun Pull your party clothes out of the closet! Sequins, blue jeans, top hats or cowboy hats, whatever you dare to wear. Join the crowd at the Ninth Annual Hospice Auction on Saturday, September 9th. This annual fundraiser will be held at the lovely McGuire's Millrace Farm in Murphy, North Carolina. Proceeds from the Hospice Auction will be used to assist the hospice program which cares for terminally ill patients and their families in Cherokee and Clay Counties. Starting at 5:30, Auction attendees will be treated to a fabulous buffet and dessert bar. Then at 7 pm sharp, the lively antics of auctioneer Tim Ryan will be on stage. Bidding will be fierce for the wonderful donations such as a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind stained glass lamp, black walnut hinged sewing basket, or the whimsical child's teepee. Golf packages as well as travel trips to New York's Big Apple, the Florida Gulf Coast or Jamaica are just a few of the luxury options as well as boutique clothing, original, signed watercolors and a custom built fly rod. Other items include an enchanting mohair teddy bear, jewelry and a best-seller signed novel. Pampered pets are not left out as well as wonderful wood carvings. Diners will be delighted to bid on dinners from fabulous local restaurants, and fresh trout certificates. The hospice auction began as an annual event in 1998 to help offset un-reimbursed expenses. The community has responded with tremendous support every year since then. "Businesses and individuals in the community are extremely generous when they hear that the auction needs donations," states Murphy Medical Center, Director of Medical Staff Development Mary Carol Campbell. "Each year, our generous benefactors willingly sponsor the auction on three different levels, ranging from donations of $150 to over $1000. We are humbled by the generosity of businesses and individuals who donate such beautiful and expensive items for the bidding." The hospice auction is open to anyone who would like to attend. Invitations are mailed out to ensure enough space is available for attendees. If you would like to receive an invitation, donate an item or be a sponsor for this year's auction on September 9th, please call event coordinator Jessica Dickerson, Murphy Medical Center's new Foundation Director, at 828835-7506. |
