(Blue Ridge, GA) August 25Johnny Chastain of Murphy, NC made it two for two in Super Late Model wins at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, GA this past Friday night, but his victory was anything but easy. Brother Shawn had grabbed the pole position with a time that was 5/100's of a second faster than Johnny's time. Both brothers started on the front row with Shawn taking the lead at the drop of the green. For 24 laps of the 30-lap feature Johnny would
challenge Shawn for several laps before backing off a few carlengths and then trying to catch Shawn again. On lap 20 Shawn showed some signs of smoke coming from the engine. On lap 24 Shawn's engine expired and he had to coast to the pits. Johnny took the win over Shawn in second and Rodney Weeks in third.
The Limited Late Model feature race again proved to be the highlight of the evening as Devan Dilbeck of Copperhill, TN returned after several weeks absence to win the feature over a battling Danny Ledford. Ledford led the first three laps before Dilbeck got in front, only to have Ledford to try to pass Dilbeck back for most of the race before settling for second. Jason Payne took third over Tyke Prince in fourth, Chris Henson in fifth, and Ty McGee in sixth. Seventh went to Todd Manners, followed by Chris Thompson in eighth, Trig Parris in ninth, Perry Ware in tenth, and Jamie Olive in eleventh.
Greg Ledford, of Talking Rock, GA, returned to the Winner's Circle in the Crate Late Model class. Ledford took the win over Sam Parris in second, Tim Cochran in third, Harley Carter in fourth, Jody Wilson in fifth. Jason Deal checked in at sixth, followed by Jim Bob Davis in seventh, Bo Stanley Jr. in eighth, and Chris Fernell in ninth.
Having lost only one time this entire season, Joe Pickelsimer of Chatsworth, GA kept up his record with another Modified Hobby class win. John Walker took home second place, followed by Devin Stuart in third, Kenny Barrett in fourth, Tom Wright in fifth, Ryan Stillwell in sixth, Bo Eaten in seventh, Travis Lawson in eighth, Jim Twiggs in ninth, and D.J. Dill in tenth.
Justin Thomas of Morganton, GA found his way back to the Winner's Circle again this week in the Economy Hobby class. Thomas was chased to the finish line by Gooch Spriggs in second, an unknown driver in third, and Cody Richards in fourth.
The Modified Mini class win went to Marty Clark over Junior Dillinger who finished second, followed by Jamie Cross in third and Brian McDonald in fourth. For the second week in a
row Justin Woodard took the win in the Stock Mini class. Greg Sudderth took second place followed by Shannon Jones in third, Herbert Chinn in fourth, Darrell Hodgin in fifth, and Judy McCoy in sixth.
