Local youth, Shelby Campbell, has been selected by the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeder and Exhibitors Association (TWHBEA) and
the National 4H Association for outstanding achievement in a 4H project with a Tennessee Walking Horse. Her project was the breeding of one of her
Tennessee Walker show horses and raising of it's colt. Shelby is the sole recipient for the State of Georgia and only 1 of 7 from across the United States this
year to receive this prestigious award from TWHBEA and 4H. She and her six peers have been invited to attend this year's annual Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration held in Shelbyville, TN at the end of August where they will be presented their awards. Being invited to The Celebration for presentation of the award in this forum is more exciting to Shelby than the actual awards themselves.
Shelby is also a member of the National Racking Horse Association (NRHA) and shows her Tennessee Walking Horses most every weekend from April through September. Her most recent achievement with the NRHA is winning Reserve Champion in each of the three state shows for Alabama, Georgia, and Tennesse on her Walker, "The Bum Diggity." The NRHAwill be hosting it's annual Racking Horse World Show the week of September 5 through 9 in Cleveland, TN in which Shelby will be showing her three month old Weanling Nationalbred "Roman" ; her Yearling Walkingbred "May's Affirmed Threat" which took 4th place last year; her racking 58" and under Walkingbred "The Bum Diggity" which was the Champion in this class last year; her Juvenile Racking Walkingbred "The Atomic Generator" and four year old
Country Pleasure Walking Horse "Another Star of Dillon". She would nomally be showing her Country Pleasure Walker "Midnight's Mayday Lady" but one of this horse's legs was broken early on in the season. Shelby has been involved daily in working with Mayday in her recovery process and hopes to be back in the showing next season with her. Shelby puts in a tremendous amount of time in training with these horses as well as improving her riding skills. In the off-season from showing in the NRHA she enjoys trail riding with her family and friends, continuing the training with her horses, and participating in the various 4H activities.
Shelby attends Union County High School and is a member of the local Union County 4H Horse Club as well as a member of the General 4H. She has held multiple offices in both 4H organizations and is very active in many of the 4H events and fundraisers to further promote the 4H organization in Union County. The Union County 4H program is the best in the state, has one of the highest participation rates, and Shelby thoroughly enjoys being a part of the 4H program.
