Hiwassee Ridge to appear in concert at Folk School Traditional and contemporary bluegrass music by East Tennessee.s Hiwassee Ridge will be featured in a free concert at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C. on Friday, September 1 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Festival Barn, but those attending are urged to park near Keith House or the Dining Hall and walk to the Festival Barn where there will be only a limited number of handicapped parking spaces available. In the barn there is hay bale seating, so audience members may wish to bring a lawn chair or blanket for comfort. Admission is free. The Folk School Craft Shop will be open until 7:30 p.m.. Hiwassee Ridge has performed at festivals, restaurants, private parties, rodeos and fairs for more than 25 years since the group first got together at a jam session on the Hiwassee River. They have opened shows for Doc Watson, Bill Monroe and Lee Greenwood, performed at Silver Dollar City, the Station Inn in Nashville, the 1982 World?s Fair in Knoxville and the 1996 Whitewater Olympics on the Ocoee River. They are the host band at the annual Cousin Jake Tullock Memorial Bluegrass Festival in Etowah, TN. The members of Hiwassee Ridge are Cindy Studdard (banjo, dobro,vocals), John Studdard (guitar, bass, vocals), Buddy McClary (mandolin, vocals), Toby Williams (bass, guitar, vocals) and Dan Williams (guitar, vocals). Their repertoire includes old bluegrass standards, contemporary country songs and gospel music. Upcoming Folk School concerts include Scottish folksinger and storyteller, Norman Kennedy (September 8) and Curtis and the Old Time Strings (September 22).
