Awards at the Georgia Mountain Fair

Saturday night July 29, 2006 was awards night at the Georgia Mountain Fair where Representative Charles Jenkins announced and presented Guitarist James Childers as the recipient of House Resolution#1775 recognizing and commending him for his many musical accomplishments which includes his 50 years of performing at the Georgia Mountain Fair.

James also received a plaque for his 50 years of service from the Management of the Georgia Mountain Fair and at the same time Fiddlin' Howard Cunningham was presented a plaque for his 55 years of service as the originator of the country music show at the GMF in 1952. He had been honored at the Capitol with a house Resolution in March 2006, presented by Representative Charles Jenkins, and became the first fiddler to perform before the House membership since Fiddling John Carson was so honored there 75 years ago. Fiddlin' Howard was accompanied by James childers on guitar playing several tunes.

Also receiving service awards on this night were Georgia Mountain Fair staff band members; Jim Wood, Steve Vincent and Jerry Moore. The Hiawassee Cloggers were honored for 41 years of clogging. This award was received by Patty Farmer Gresham, daughter of the late Jean Farmer who originated the group.
